GEORGE TOWN: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) should consider forming a coalition with Pakatan Harapan (PH), says newly elected Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.
“We are the largest bloc and therefore have the clout. PH will play a significant role in the discussion to form the new government,” Ramkarpal said.
On Sarawak Premier and GPS chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s stand that GPS would not partner PH, Ramkarpal said although the GPS leader has frequently said so, GPS should open up their eyes to the possibility of a coalition.“The whole point of GE15 was to overcome the uncertainties,” he said.“However, we will adhere to certain principles, in particular those of PH, when we negotiate to form coalitions,” he said.
On Nurul Izzah Anwar‘s defeat in Permatang Pauh, Ramkarpal said it was time to reflect on the reasons for the defeat.Pakatan Harapan's Ramkarpal Singh was returned as the Bukit Gelugor MP after securing victory with 86,073 votes. Barisan Nasional Wong Chin Chong and Perikatan Nasional P.Thinagaranabhan each obtained 8,092 and 6,777 votes respectively.
