A Lake County judge denied bail Friday for a Gary couple charged in a 3-year-old girl’s abuse death.
The girl’s mother, Tiarra Glenn, 29, of Gary, and her boyfriend Devan L. Allen, 30, of East Chicago, were both charged with murder and several other felonies.Both will remain in jail until their respective murder trials — scheduled currently on Nov. 27 for Glenn and Jan. 29 for Allen.
Vasquez said Glenn told investigators that both she and the girl woke up around 8 a.m. After the child was barely responsive, Glenn called 911 a few hours later. Glenn at some point had hit her at least five times with a belt that morning, according to Bruno. She didn’t have the strength with arthritis and enlisted Allen to take over, he said.
After they pulled up the scarf and made her drink some water. Vasquez described it Friday as closer to “waterboarding,” or forcing water down the child’s throat.Glenn heard a “loud thump,” she said, according to court documents.
