Garland ISD diving coach calls one swimmer's journey to the state championships as a Cinderella story, because one diver came from an unlikely place.
GARLAND, Texas — Garland ISD in North Texas has never had a swimming or diving team before, because it has never had a place for a team to practice. But now that it has built an indoor swimming pool, the district already has two divers heading to the state championships.
“I’m one of the top 24 boys in the state,” Rose said. “I’m pretty nervous, because it’s a lot of pressure. But I’m also really excited for the opportunity.” “If he wants to pursue college scholarships, he’s already getting his name out there as a freshman, and those recruiters will be watching him over the next few years,” Henderson explained.“I never tried to do anything with good form or anything like that. Like, dove,” Rose said. “Just trampoline. I started diving this year, but I caught on pretty fast.”“I had a little trampoline that we put by the pool here, and I just did, like, flips into it. But not diving itself,” Rose said.
