Texas sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter declared for the 2023 NBA draft but did not rule out a return to the Longhorns.

But he’s got one foot out the door.
Hunter will have until May 31 to withdraw his name from the prospect pool to maintain his collegiate eligibility. The NBA will conduct its full 2023 draft on June 22. A 6-foot guard from Racine, Wisc., Hunter was named Big 12 freshman of the year in 2022 after leading a surprising Iowa State team to the Sweet Sixteen. Much to the chagrin of folks in Ames, Iowa, Hunter then transferred to Texas to play for former head coach Chris Beard.
Though Hunter went through a few offensive slumps, he paired well with graduate guards Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice and the rest of a well-rounded roster. And coach Rodney Terry praised Hunter’s defense throughout the season, hailing him as one of the best on-ball menaces in the Big 12.
