The house is undergoing renovations to move some old folks there.
Its manager Valliamah Subramaniam said ministry officials told her that the old folks home at No.2, Jalan Dayang 8/8 had 36 residents, which was above the allowed limit of between 15 and 17 people.
Some of the residents, she said, would have to be moved to the new premises at No.21, Jalan Dayang 16/8, adding that renovations were needed there.“We were advised to have another premises so the paying and non-paying residents could be housed separately,” said Valliamah during a visit.She said that after renovations, the new premises could accommodate about 20 people.
“We must also fulfil the ministry’s requirement of installing an emergency exit, proper lighting and stairs at the property,” she said.The plight of the home was raised by DAP Socialist Youth Public Complaints Bureau chief Lee Wen Bin.He hoped renovation works could be completed by July.Those interested in helping out can contact Valliamah at 018-366 4581.
