A police chase that started in Willowick and ended in Cleveland left a man dead Friday night.
Published: Oct. 23, 2023 at 12:18 PM EDTCLEVELAND, Ohio - Willowick police released new information Monday about a police chase that ended with the death of a 34-year-old fugitive.
The chase took place around 11 p.m. Friday when a Willowick officer spotted a vehicle suspected in an ongoing drug investigation.According to police, the officer attempted a traffic stop, and a chase began when the driver failed to pull over. The chase continued into Cleveland before the driver, later identified as Carlos Antonio Horton, struck another car and then a utility pole.
Horton was killed as a result of the crash, which took place near East 92nd Street and St. Clair Avenue in the Glenville neighborhood.According to Willowick police, the officer was patrolling in a condominium parking lot following tips about Horton’s alleged drug dealing.Records show he had previously been charged in Lake County with drug trafficking and failure to comply.
According to Willowick police, a review of the chase has found the officers involved followed department policy.
