A former baseball player, Krull makes his debut as a tight end for the Broncos after transitioning to football.
A mere five years ago – or a lifetime in the limited timespan at the elite level of sports –was a hard-throwing lefty pitcher who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 34th round of the Major League Baseball draft. On Monday night, Krull was making his Broncos ’ debut as a tight end , called up from the practice squad – temporarily for now -- where he had spent the first 9 weeks of the 2023 NFL season.
How did the 6-foot-6, 260-pound Krull get from point A in baseball five years ago to point, well, A in football? “The love for baseball just sort of dwindled away,” Krull said in an interview earlier this season with 9NEWS. Out of Mill Valley High School in the sports hotbed of Shawnee, Kan., Krull had a chance to develop as a big league pitcher. “That was my thought process when I was young,’’ Krull said. “Growing up, baseball was something I excelled at at a young age.’’“Mid-90s,’’ he said. “Struggled with my control a little bit.
