Audrey Diwan's Happening wins the Golden Lion for best film at VeniceFilmFestival
has come to a close with French director Audrey Diwan’s powerful abortion drama “Happening” beating big-name competition to the Golden Lion for Best Film.
Veteran auteur Jane Campion has taken Best Director for her acclaimed Netflix-backed western “The Power of the Dog”; another Netflix title, Italian director Paolo Sorrentino’s coming-of-age tale “The Hand of God,” won the runner-up Grand Jury Prize. Maggie Gyllenhaal took the Best Screenplay award for her directorial debut “The Lost Daughter,” while Penélope Cruz has won Best Actress for her role in Pedro Almodóvar’s “Parallel Mothers.
