A slew of security issues marred the inaugural day of the Paris Olympics, before the opening ceremony even began. The French high-speed train network was paralysed by malicious attacks, causing delays that affected about 800,000 travellers.

Train operator SNCF says vandalism on critical infrastructure on the rail lines, including arson, was to blame. Several train services were diverted to different tracks, but most were cancelled altogether. French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal says no suspects have been arrested at this stage and it is too early to pin any blame. The sports minister has condemned the attacks and assured the public the weekend will go on. Ross Cullen reports from Paris.
