France hit by nationwide strikes as workers take to the streets over proposed changes to retirement rules.
Protesters hold placards reading "Maragaret Macron, this time we will win" in front of Paris' Louvre Museum on Feb. 17, 2020.Police unions opposed to the retirement reform are also taking part; those who aren’t protesting are bracing for potential violence if extremist groups join the demonstrations.
The French government is formally presenting the pension bill on Monday and it heads to Parliament next month. Its success will depend in part on the scale and duration of the strikes and protests. “There’s nothing good in this reform,” Rozenn Cros told Reuters in the southern French city of Cannes, as she and other teachers prepared for the strike, with banners including “No to 64.”
