It’s so important for us to put self-care at the top of our to-do lists during the holidays. After all, self-care isn’t selfish. I’ve learned from experience that paying attention to my own needs keeps me grounded and helps be be my best version of myself.

It’s also the season when we are juggling everything. Work-life balance? Try work-life-holiday balance! Having that extra ingredient in the mix can be challenging. The holidays are a wonderful time, but they do add extra pressures like getting gifts, taking care of your family, and closing your books. Between it all, don’t forget to include yourself in the equation. After all, ‘tis the season to be giving — and that includes being giving to yourself.

If you’re anything like me, taking care of others is part of your DNA. As a mother, a wife, a daughter, and CEO, I am also constantly pulled in a million different directions. I’m a natural nurturer, and nothing makes me happier than supporting others, but it can take a toll. This is especially true for women,My friend, actress and activist Holly Robinson Peete, can relate.

Today, Holly takes care of her 83-year-old mother and four kids. “It’s challenging to wear so many different hats,” she says. “You never stop caring for someone else; it can be very exhausting.” I hear this again and again from women; we’re expert jugglers, but we don’t always make sure one of those balls in the air is dedicated to ourselves.That’s why it’s so important for us to put self-care at the top of our to-do lists during the holidays. After all, self-care isn’t selfish.

However you choose to practice self-care this holiday season and beyond, doing so will go a long way in helping you care for others. Wishing you a holiday filled with love, light, and gratitude!
