KUALA LUMPUR: Two men and two women have been arrested following a raid on a scam call centre, says Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
Aged between 21 and 23, the four were nabbed in a raid at a condominium in Bukit Bintang by Dang Wangi police on Thursday, he said.“The victims were promised cash returns in exchange for promoting some products.”Comm Shuhaily said the syndicate, which is believed to have been active since March, had promoted the scam via social media.Comm Shuhaily said that police were also working to improve their strategies in dealing with such crimes.
In another case, a 31-year-old man, who was detained for allegedly abusing his girlfriend’s daughter, had been remanded for seven days until June 15. Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the victim and her 18-year-old mother had been staying with the suspect for about two months. It was reported that the toddler suffered a bruised lip and swollen eye sockets, among other injuries, after being allegedly abused by her mother’s lover.“She will be handed over to the Welfare Department once her treatment is completed,” he added.The suspect, he said, had a criminal record for 13 offences, including seven drug-related offences.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily also witnessed the handing over of the KL Special Branch chief post from SAC Abu Samah to SAC Fazlisyam Abd Majid.
