Four adult men and a 14-year-old have been arrested for damage to infrastructure after they were found with more than R3 million worth of overhead cables that were allegedly stolen from Transnet.
The 14-year-old as well as Joshua Mavia Mapendani, 34; Sizwe Rinze Masasane, 27; Themba Swele, 27; and Lino Matchave, 23, face charges of damaging essential infrastructure.
Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said the five appeared in the Delmas Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. They were arrested on Sunday afternoon by Hawks officers who had received a tip-off about a group of people who were planning to steal Transnet cables in Delmas. Four men and a teenager have been arrested after they were found in possession of overhead cables allegedly stolen from Transnet.
