Foundation makes it through another Crisis.
Summary Foundation season 2 ended with the apparent destruction of both Terminus and the latest iteration of the Cleon Dynasty, but there was plenty of hope for the future amidst all the loss. The Apple TV+ series was created by David S. Goyer and based on Isaac Asimov's seminal science fiction novels.
For a variety of reasons, which we can't entirely reveal right now, him being a robot just didn't work for us – although it was something we thought of. I just thought this was a much more interesting canon way for him to have survived. When you look back on these episodes, it makes a lot of sense, and I feel like we played fair. If you look at episode 6 when Tellem is giving Gaal a primer on how this all works, everything that she says is what Gaal goes on to do.
But it's also important that you've got what characters want to do personally, what characters need to do for society, and then what characters should do for the plot. And you have to balance all of those things. Sometimes, it makes the most sense that a character should do X for the plot.
On the non-human side of things, I think that Demerzel is the most fascinating and complex character at this moment, just with all the history that you’ve added to her story. Was that all mapped out for you from the beginning, and how do you approach her true feelings toward Empire? How she's going to have to change things up if she wants to keep it going?
Speaking of gaps and time jumps, season 2 has endings for characters that I don’t know if we’ll ever see again. For example, Brother Constant finding what's left to Terminus that will allow them to keep the Foundation running. Or Sareth and Dawn running away together. Are we going to get to hear what happens after, when we get to 150 years in the future, or is that left to the imagination?
