Currently, as many people are unemployed in the US as the population of Sri Lanka

People gather at the entrance for the New York State Department of Labor offices, which closed to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, US, March 20, 2020.

The labour department's report on Thursday includes a count of all the people now receiving unemployment aid: 21 million. That is a rough measure of the number of unemployed Americans.
