The former president violates a gag order in his civil fraud trial for the second time and is fined $US10,000 ($15,889).

Former US president Donald Trump has been fined $US10,000 for violating a gag order by disparaging the judge's staff in his civil fraud trial in New York.He has received his second fine for violating a gag orderIt is the second time in less than a week Trump has been penalised for out-of-court comments after he spoke with reporters in a hallway of the courthouse.

Judge Engoron, who said Trump was referencing his clerk, called the comments a "blatant" gag order violation. Before being fined, Mr Trump briefly took the witness stand and told Judge Engoron he was referring to "you and Cohen" during his remarks. The judge rejected the idea, echoed by Trump's lawyer Christopher Kise, that the "partisan" person Trump mentioned was Mr Cohen.

Judge Engoron's clerk has sat next to the judge during the trial, standard practice in a New York state court. He rejected Ms Habba's contention that he has "made a career" of attacking Mr Trump and embellishing criticism for personal gain.A lawyer for Mr Trump's adult son Eric Trump — also a defendant in the case — asked Judge Engoron to immediately enter a verdict in the defence's favour based on what he called Mr Cohen's "contradictory testimony".
