A former Victorian Labor MP is embarking on a major restoration of an 18th century French chateau and will be in Melbourne later this month to raise donations for the project.
The former minister, who served in the Bracks and Brumby governments, reportedly purchased the sprawling property with his fiancé Felicity Selkirk for $1.19 million in 2020.
It said that most of the buildings have structural damage and are “overgrown, ruined and dangerous”. He said the project has the support of the Ministère de la Culture, so that it can be restored to is original heritage and splendour. “We both love French culture. We love everything about France,” he said during an Instagram live chat.
