The former Rhondda Colliery site will be turned into a $95-million motorsport park.A former coal mine in the New South Wales Hunter Valley will be given new life as a multi-million-dollar privately owned motorsport park and racing track as part of a state government plan to repurpose disused mine sites.
Black Rock Motor Resort chief executive and founder Tony Palmer said his team worked alongside Yancoal and the NSW resource regulator to help rehabilitate the site. "Where there were previous tailings and previous course rejects, all of that needed to be kept rehabilitated … safe, stable and non-polluting."Mr Jacobs said the closure plan for every mine site was constantly being updated because land supply and demand changed over time.
