Dillon Sheppard is the last man standing but with Kaizer Chiefs set to bring a new coach, he might have to make way.
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane has urged Amakhosi not to extend their assistant coach Dillon Sheppard’s contract next season.
Sheppard joined Amakhosi as Gavin Hunt’s assistant in 2020 alongside Arthur Zwane. In 2022, Zwane was elevated to head coach but only survived a season before the club demoted him to assistant. On the other hand, Sheppard worked with Hunt, Stuart Baxter, Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson in the past four years.
Mwane says Kaizer Chiefs will have to get rid of Sheppard for next season as they prepare to bring in a new coach. The Glamour Boys have been linked with“The club cannot be seen as doing favours for some people because, at the end of the day, it is all about the team and the results,” Humphrey Mlwane told“I’m sorry to say this because I may be seen as someone pushing for one of our own to lose his job, but the team isn’t making any progress, and everyone can see that.
“He can go and try elsewhere. I’ve heard that his contract is nearing an end, and I don’t see why it would be difficult for him and the club to part ways. “It’s not like they will be owing each other and things like that. The chiefs need to bring a new technical team altogether and start all over again.”Kaizer Chiefs are yet to announce their new coach since the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season ended last weekend. Nasreddine Nabi and Mosimane are top candidates to take over the role. If one of them is appointed, it is well known that the coaches will prefer to bring their own technical team.
