San Antonio resident uses skills as former interpreter in Iraq to help immigrants navigate new home

By 2007, Iraq had become dangerous and volatile, and he feared for his family’s safety. Athraa was pregnant with their second son when Abdallah sought help from Army Col. Richard Welch, a supervisor and friend he worked with in the Green Zone. The colonel helped Abdallah process paperwork for a special immigrant visa interview with the American Embassy in Baghdad.
