Former Arizona State long snapper John Ferlmann is transferring to Ohio State.
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Ferlmann handled long-snapping duties in all 12 games for the Sun Devils this year after walking on with Arizona State in 2021 and redshirting his freshman year.
Ferlmann, who will be on scholarship at Ohio State, is the first player to join the Buckeyes via the transfer portal for the 2023 season. He becomes the third specialist to join Ohio State via the transfer portal since 2021 along with kickers Noah Ruggles and Parker Lewis . His transfer gives Ohio State another option at long snapper with the impending departure of Bradley Robinson. While walk-on Mason Arnold has handled long-snapping duties this year since Robinson suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Buckeyes’ seventh game of the year against Iowa, Ohio State has reason to bring in competition for Arnold after heon what was supposed to be a fake punt in Ohio State’s regular-season-ending loss to Michigan.
The addition of Ferlmann gives the Buckeyes three long snappers on their 2023 roster along with Arnold and fellow walk-on Max Lomonico. All three of them will be redshirt sophomores with three remaining years of eligibility next season.
