Apple’s MacBook laptops continue to gather critical and commercial acclaim, but is now the time to be investing in new MacBook Air or MacBook Pro?
The Mac Pro also shows up, but with a successor to the M1 Ultra chip. This would be the final model to move from Intel to Apple Silicon, fulfilling Tim Cook’s promise to move all-new Mac hardware to the ARM-based platform by the end of 2022.
I personally feel that Apple will want to launch all of the M1 based Macs before moving to the M2, which means the Mac Pro is the keystone holding back the launch of the M2 chipsets. Launching the Mac Pro with the presumptively named M1 Ultra Max Fabulous Pro alongside an M2 powered MacBook Air… feels awkward.
So the big question now is when the Mac Pro is revealed. With that out of the way, the future portfolio will be on deck and ready to go. Will we see the Mac Pro at WWDC this June? If we do will it be flying solo or with a fleet of the new MacBooks behind it? No matter what we’re going to be offered some clarity to the release roadmap. Now is not the time to be upgrading your Mac hardware. Keep the dollars dry until the WWDC delivery arrives.
