Foreign-Registered Vehicles Can Still Enter Malaysia Until Oct 1 Despite VEP Enforcement

Malaysia's Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced that foreign vehicles without Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) tags can still enter the country from Singapore until October 1, 2024. While the VEP enforcement will be implemented in phases starting October 1st, Singapore-registered vehicles without a VEP may still enter Malaysia as usual. However, vehicle owners will receive reminders at CIQ complexes to register and install their VEP tags.

A VEP can be used to pay toll fees on Malaysia n highways, as well as the RM20 road charge levied on foreign vehicles when they enter Malaysia .

However, vehicle-owners entering Malaysia may receive reminders at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex in Johor Bahru and Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ Complex at the Second Link to immediately register, install and activate their VEP and radio frequency identification tags.“Please be reminded that warning notices will be issued to owners of Singapore-registered private vehicles without VEPs before they leave Malaysia,” Datuk Aedy said.

A VEP can be used to pay toll fees on Malaysian highways, as well as the RM20 road charge levied on foreign vehicles when they enter Malaysia.
