Wet and rainy conditions will continue this week and cold temperatures could drop to as low as -1, with the chance of snow and frost developing as the week goes on

While brighter days are just around the corner, parts of Ireland will be in for some wintry conditions in the coming days.Wednesday is due to be a cold day with temperatures of 8 degrees, and overnight lows of -1, while Thursday is due to be slightly milder with daytime highs of 9 degrees and overnight temperatures of -1.

The forecaster said: "More rain bands are due through Wednesday and Thursday also with some wintry showers possible with snow possible on high hills and mountains." "All this rain over the last couple of days and the next few days is brought by a deep low-pressure system which is stalling around Ireland and allowing rain band after rain band to push in. This will slowly move away later this week before the weekend."

Tuesday Bright spells and scattered heavy showers will form with hail and thunder possible. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees with moderate east to northeast breezes. Early tonight, there will be clear spells and scattered showers, with longer spells of rain in the north. Later in the night, persistent rain will develop. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees.
