Ford said the engine oil separator housing may crack and develop an oil leak.
According to documents filed with the, “The engine oil separator housing may crack and develop an oil leak. Consequence: An oil leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components, can increase the risk of a fire.”
Ford said it is not aware of any injuries that resulted from the defect but there have been instances of “underhood” fires. Ford said the vehicle owner “may smell oil smoke, may see oil smoke emanating from the underhood area, or may observe oil leaks on or under the engine. In some cases, if sufficient oil accumulates and migrates to an ignition source, an underhood fire may occur, increasing the risk of injury.”
Letters to owners are expected to be mailed by April 18, 2022. Dealers, Ford said, will inspect the vehicle and replace the oil separator and seals if necessary, free of charge. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
