Ford is expanding a previous recall and issuing a new one for more than 125,000 SUVs and trucks because the engines could fail and catch fire

is expanding a previous recall and issuing a new one for more than 125,000 SUVs and trucks because the engines could fail and catch fire.

The recall includes 2020-2023 model year Lincoln Corsair and Ford Escape SUVs, as well as 2020-2023 Maverick compact pickup trucks with hybrid engines, according to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety AdministrationIssues with the manufacturing of the engine can cause it to malfunction, release engine oil or vapor and increase the risk of a fire, according to Ford. This could lead to accidents and injuries.

Ford’s first recall related to the engine problems included 100,000 Corsairs, Escapes and Mavericks manufactured in the U.S. last July. The company had received 23 reports worldwide of fire or smoke coming from the engine. The automobile company said Tuesday that it had received at least three reports of vehicles that caught fire after receiving a fix for the issues last year.

Ford and the NHTSA urge owners of these recalled vehicles to park and shut off the engine, if they hear unexpected engine noises, see smoke or notice a reduction in vehicle performance. Our journalism needs your support. Please subscribe today to
