Ford Motor Company's Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1 in Brook Park, Ohio employs about 1,500 making 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 3.7-liter Duratech engines. BROOK PARK, Ohio — The UAW strike that started three weeks ago did not grow to include any more auto plants on Friday, but more workers in Greater Cleveland will be laid off in the aftermath of the strike.
The UAW has been using a new targeted strike strategy, where they pick key facilities to strike at each automaker and announce them hours before the strike starts. The strike started two weeks ago at three assembly plants — a Ford factory near Detroit, a GM plant outside St. Louis, and a Jeep plant owned by Stellantis in Toledo. It then expanded Sept. 22 to 38 parts and distribution facilities owned by GM and Stellantis.
Fain said Friday that the union has gotten the companies to come closer to meeting the union’s demands, and that progress has been made on converting temporary workers, cost-of-living adjustments, pay and other issues. The UAW is asking for increased pay, cost-of-living adjustments, reinstatement of health benefits for retirees and the ending of tiers – which create pay disparities among UAW members.
