The $4.7 trillion spending plan aims to eliminate NEA, NEH and PBS.

Author David McCullough speaks at the 2017 National Book Festival, an annual event that gets part of its funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. By Peggy McGlone Peggy McGlone Reporter covering the arts in the Washington region Email Bio Follow March 18 at 4:34 PM The Trump administration has again proposed the elimination of federal funding for the arts and humanities, public television and radio, libraries and museums.

Like last year’s proposal, the 2020 budget provides $29 million for the NEA and $38 million for the NEH, both funded at $155 million this year. The CBP would receive $30 million, down from $465 million, and the IMLS would receive $23 million, a $219 million cut. “For a modest investment of about $1.35 per citizen per year, public television provides school readiness for children, support for teachers and caregivers, public safety communications and lifelong learning through high-quality content,” PBS president and chief executive Paula Kerger said in a statement.
