Mental-health concerns have come to the fore amid Covid-19’s disproportionate effect on the Black community and racial trauma after the George Floyd killing

Therapy wasn’t a subject that Alysha Pamphile’s Haitian family discussed much when she was growing up in Orange, N.J. But a couple of years ago, she started to think about seeing a therapist while experiencing anxiety and the end of a long-term relationship.

She’d been watching the HBO show “Insecure,” which features a Black main character attending therapy. And a social-worker cousin pointed her toward a website called Therapy for Black Girls, which has a large social media following and a therapist directory.
