A’s player captures League City Little League’s home run derby

Cole Gerber was a big help during the home run derby, taking throws from kids who shagged baseballs and depositing somewhere between 50 and 75 baseballs into the bucket. He plays for the Yankees. After the first round of the League City Little League T-Mobile Home Run Derby, there was no need to announce Lennon Penny’s name.

So if two players haven’t surpassed 23 homers, Penny gets to move on. Penny has possibly moved a step closer to competing for the national championship, scheduled for Williamsport, Pa., home of the famous Little League World Series every August. “I saw it bounce off. I knew that was out by a long way when I hit it. I heard it and then it bounced off,” Penny said.

The sixth grader was even caught off-guard by the number of homers he hit Saturday. He set a goal of five to 10, but he blew that goal out of the water with his nine in Round 1.
