The Highlanders have already matched their win total from last season.
Seeing how the Highlanders looked on opening day in launching this season, the new look Highlanders may win a heck of a lot more than one in 2023.
“We were playing better football as the season went on last year, even though our record didn’t reflect that,” said West Milford coach Steve Maslanek. “And a lot of younger guys, freshmen, and sophomores, were playing gaining experience. I think that experience and getting after it in the offseason is starting to pay off now.”After forcing Nutley into a three-and-out on its own 2-yard line to start the game, West Milford wasted no time to start its assault.
Another three-and-out by Nutley set the Highlanders in plus territory yet again, and it took seven plays to find the endzone again. Speedy junior receiver Marcus Morgan took a sweep around right end from the 2 and scored untouched, running the lead up to 16-0 after one. Yet another three-and-out quickly gave the ball back to West Milford, and a 61-yard strike from sophomore quarterback Aydin Deane to Morgan on a seam route extended the lead to 30-0.
