Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple could release its foldable MacBook as soon as in 2026, with two screen size options as well.
There have been quite a number of rumours of Apple making its own foldable device, though claims of the form factor in which the device would take have been all over the place. It was previously a tossup between a phone and a tablet, but earlier this year the possibility of it being a MacBook has also been added. Now, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has a new claim, which narrows the product down to the laptop category.
In a Medium post, Kuo claims that there will be two sizes for the MacBook option, with the choice being 20.25 or 18.8 inches. Folded, this would correspond to the design of laptops with a screen size of the 14-15- and 13-14-inch ranges. The panel is noted to be supplied by LG Display, with an expensive hinge design to make the panel 'as crease-free as possible'.
While Kuo says that an estimated one million units of these foldable MacBooks are expected to ship in 2026, their panels are expected to enter mass production between Q4 of 2025 or H1 of 2026. Considering this timeline, the device is also expected to run the bitten fruit brand's next generation chipset, which will more than likely be called the M5.
The analyst also claims that with the expensive foldable display and the accompanying hinge, the material cost of this foldable MacBook 'could approach that of the current Vision Pro'. It remains to be seen if this means it will have a similar asking price when it hits shelves. But considering all of this is about a product that's at least 18 months away, no sense in holding your breaths for it right now.
