“It’s been great,” Popovich said of his relationship with Wright. “We are totally open and honest with each other. There is no territory involved. We just do our jobs.” Popovich, who is also president of Spurs Basketball, stood by Wright during that difficult time for him, the organization and Cauthen.
The Spurs have reportedly made it known they are willing to entertain deals for veterans Jakob Poeltl, Josh Richardson, Doug McDermott and, according to the Action Network, Isaiah Roby. With the deadline looming, the players say they remain focused on doing their jobs. The Spurs faced the Raptors on Wednesday night and will be at Detroit on Friday before completing the first leg of the rodeo trip at Atlanta on Saturday, Cleveland on Monday and Charlotte on Wednesday.
“You get traded, your family moves, kids are out of school, you have to get a new apartment — it’s a life thing,” he said. “People don’t understand that, but you have to pick up your life immediately and be on a new team. Hopefully, you have a couple of home games .”
