FORT MYERS, Florida — A man who fell into a pond behind a bar was attacked by an alligator, resulting in the man losing his arm, reports say.
But despite losing his arm, Jordan Rivera, 23, considers himself lucky after the encounter with the alligator early Sunday morning behind Banditos Bar,“Those gators, I didn’t truly understand them until I woke up in the hospital and, ‘Oh, gator got your arm,’” Rivera tells WBBH. “I didn’t lose my life, I lost an arm, it’s not the end of the world, you know.”
According to WBBH, Rivera said the lines were long at the bar’s restrooms, so he took a walk to the pond behind the bar in order to relieve himself. He says he somehow tripped and fell into the water, and that he doesn’t remember what happened afterward. another person in the bar, Manny Hildago, heard Rivera’s screams when the attack occurred at the bar in Port Charlotte. He says he used the flashlight on his phone to locate Rivera in the water.“I ran and dragged him up onto the sand. I was scared to get close to the water because it was dark out.”that bystanders put a tourniquet on Rivera’s arm until emergency workers arrived. Trappers later caught the alligator, which was more than 10 feet long.
