Local sporting organisations in South Australia have put together a special memorial site for a young footy player involved in a fatal on-field collision during an opening season game.

The incident took place in South Australia on Saturday, during the opening match of the season between two Adelaide Hills’ local clubs, Birdwood and Gumeracha.

A cross and flowers have been laid out on Gumeracha Oval, where 20-year-old Antonio Loiacono was fatally injured. Picture: Facebook/Birdwood Football & Netball ClubMr Loiacono’s side, Birdwood Football Club, hoisted a cross along with some flowers on Gumeracha Oval, in a heartfelt tribute to the 20-year-old footballer.

“All at the Gumeracha Football Club extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Antonio Loiacono.According to the Daily Mail, Mr Loiacono’s status as an organ donor meant he would be saving two lives, one of a baby and the other of a 19-year-old.
