Floods: Situation improves in parts of Sabah, one relief centre opens in Kinabatangan

KOTA KINABALU: Floods in Sabah have improved in many areas but there are also some areas that have been newly hit by rising waters.

From the 10 previously affected districts, only one relief centre remains open as of 5pm on Sunday , which is in Tongod.However, a new temporary shelter was opened in Kinabatangan as at 4pm, Sunday. The number of victims taking shelter here are still being updated, said the Sabah Civil Defence Force. Earlier Sunday, a total of 14 SMK Tongod students had to be transferred out of their village using boats as they will be sitting for their SPM examination on Monday .In all the affected districts, food baskets and other assistance are still being provided especially for those who remain displaced.On Saturday night, areas in Putatan, Lok Kawi and Kinarut on the west coast of Sabah were hit by flash floods with some areas experiencing landslips due to a downpour.
