JOHOR BARU: At least 500 people affected by the floods have been able to return home as floodwaters in most areas in Johor begin to recede.

The state Disaster Management Committee said the number of evacuees dropped to 41,188 as of 4pm Sunday compared with 42,706 at noon.

"The number of flood evacuees in three districts, namely, Muar, Tangkak and Segamat, has been seeing a downward trend over the past four hours. "However, there has been a slight increase in the number of evacuees in Batu Pahat with some 39,944 people seeking shelter at the 115 temporary relief centres in the district," it said in a statement.

It added that four relief centres have also been closed since noon, bringing the total of active centres to 148 as of 4pm.It also said that five districts - Johor Baru, Muar, Pontian, Segamat and Batu Pahat - have been experiencing rainy weather as of 4pm.
