FLOODS in Kedah and Sarawak have fully receded while the situation in Sabah and Johor has improved, with Penang becoming the latest to be hit by floods., Bandar Baharu civil defence officer Abdul Rahim Khairuddin said the sunny weather today made floodwaters subside quickly and allowed 35 victims from 11 families at the SK Relau temporary relief centre to go home.

State Environment and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said although the weather remained sunny until 1pm today, evacuees cannot go home yet as their houses have not been cleaned. “The TRC at Dewan Komuniti Kubang Menerong in North Seberang Prai district is still sheltering 38 people from nine families while in South Seberang Prai, the TRC at SK Bakap Indah is housing 21 victims from eight families,” he told Bernama.

Two TRCs were opened in Penang as at 2am today following heavy rain for more than two hours in several areas from 3.30pm yesterday.
