KOTA KINABALU: The bad weather that brought floods and risky high tides in several areas in Pitas, Kota Belud and Kota Kinabalu saw 344 victims there being temporarily relocated to relief centres on Friday (Dec 23).

As of 8pm, the state disaster management committee said the trend is expected to increase as they continue the registration process at five shelters, which were all activated earlier on Friday.

In Pitas, there are a total of 259 victims placed in Dewan Kampung Mempakad , Kg Pinggan-Pinggan Agropolitan hall and Kg Salimpodon open hall . There are 68 victims in Kota Belud's SJK Chung Hwa hall and 17 victims housed in Dewan Muhibbah Sembulan in the state capital. The wet spell in several areas in Sabah is expected to continue until Monday , according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

Sandakan division, which includes Telupid, Kinabatangan and Beluran as well as the Kudat district, is expected to experience worse weather until Saturday , while milder rain is expected in the interior , west coast and Labuan Federal Territory until Monday.
