Flood mitigation project to be completed in 2027

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The police have classified the deaths of two women found inside a car parked near a residential area here as sudden deaths.

THE programme to address frequent flooding in Bayan Baru, Penang, which started last year will be completed in 2027.

The sub-component projects are the Blue-Green Corridor , the Upstream Retention Pond, and the Swale and Infiltration Well . The project is fully funded by the World Bank’s Adaptation Fund and is supported by the Penang state government and Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry. Compounding the problem was the fact that many of the area’s piping systems were among the oldest in the state, limiting rainwater capacity and causing flash floods.
