Heavy rainfall is predicted to develop for the Townsville region on Saturday and persist through Sunday.

Areas including Tully, Cardwell, Ayr, Bowen and Charters Towers are expected to be hit with significant rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.Six-hourly rainfall totals of 100mm-180mm are likely, while isolated 24-hour totals more than 300mm are possible. Central and northern Queensland have had heavy falls in recent days and there is “certainly much more to come”, senior meteorologist Harry Clark said.

“People in central and northern Queensland need to be prepared for the possibility of heavy rainfall,” he said. “Key areas as risk look to be roughly ... Innisfail down to Mackay, west to around Longreach and reaching even Mt Isa.”Your cookie settings are preventing this third party content from displaying.
