KUALA LUMPUR: Soon drivers can use credit cards and debit cards to pay for highway tolls on five roads, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Four of them - the Sungai Besi Expressway, the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, the New Pantai Expressway, and the Guthrie Corridor Expressway - were in the Klang Valley, while the fifth is the Penang Bridge. If it proves successful, more highways could switch to the open payment system.
"From the beginning of this year, we have been talking with the highway concessionaires on the steps towards the implementation of an open payment system," he said in a Facebook posting. The introduction of the Multi-Lane Free Flow will give users more options for paying tolls and should help ease traffic bottlenecks, especially at toll plazas.
