A fisherman in Bagan Datuk, Perak was found dead after he went missing yesterday while inspecting his boat's propeller in a river. The rescue team recovered the body this morning after an extensive search operation.
BAGAN DATUK : A fisherman who went missing while checking his boat's propeller in a river at Platform B10, Hutan Melintang , here yesterday, was found drowned today. The body of the victim, Pee Kian Kok, 55, was discovered by the rescue team at 8:07 am this morning, approximately 10 meters from the last known location.
Perak's Assistant Director of Operations of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, stated that they received information regarding the incident at 4:28 pm. He mentioned that during the incident, the victim was reportedly carrying out work to inspect the boat's propeller underwater but was not seen resurfacing. Upon arrival of the fire engine at the scene, the water was found to be fast-flowing with heavy rain, making it difficult for the firemen to carry out rescue operations. The search operation, which resumed today, utilized surface searches on the river using an aluminum boat and successfully located the victim at 8:07 am, he said here today. According to him, the victim was brought ashore, and a medical examination by the medical team determined that the man had passed away. The operation, involving members of the Hutan Melintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) and the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) of Teluk Intan, concluded at 9:30 am. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers associated with working near water, particularly in environments with strong currents and unpredictable weather conditions.
