The monument will honor Bernard Isadore Friedenberg, who grew up in Atlantic City.

“I am just so excited that it’s going to be right in front of the WWI monument and right across from where our old high school was, Atlantic City High School ... and across from Stockton , where kids can really see it and question the war,” she added. “I don’t feel that kids know enough about WWII and the greatest generation.”

After returning home from the war, Freidenberg continued to be active in veterans affairs. In 2008, he was recognized for his service by then-New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, and again eight years later at the WWII Museum in New Orleans in 2016.
