Monkeypox case confirmed in northern Brazoria County

The first confirmed case of the virus has been reported in Brazoria County.The first confirmed case of monkeypox in Brazoria County has been reported, according to the county’s health department.
The case was confirmed on July 25 for a person who is in isolation and recovering at home in the northern part of the county, according to a press release from the county. The Brazoria County Health Department asks those who believe they may have been exposed to the virus or have monkeypox symptoms to contact their medical provider.
Last week, Galveston County Health District reported its first probable case, which was detected in an out-of-state resident. The case was pending laboratory confirmation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the Houston area,The virus is not considered deadly, but symptoms can be worse in patients with weakened immune systems. No Americans have died from the virus since the outbreak began in May.
