John McFall, a 43-year-old British surgeon and former Paralympian, has received medical clearance from the European Space Agency (ESA) to become the first 'parastronaut' on a long-duration mission to the International Space Station (ISS). McFall lost a leg in a motorbike accident at 19 but will now join other astronauts awaiting mission assignments.
