KOTA KINABALU: Firemen are working to rescue a man caught in the branches of a 30m tall tree following a paragliding accident on Tuesday afternoon (July 26).

The 35-year-old victim was stuck on top of the tree after he lost control of his paraglider at the Kokol Hill area in Manggatal near here at around noon.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said the victim had lost control of his paraglider before falling and getting stuck in the tree.He said the department received a call about the incident at 12.12pm Tuesday and a rescue effort was initiated.“Our rescuers had to walk about 5km from the main road to reach the location as it is not accessible by vehicles,” he said in a statement.

As of 9.30pm Tuesday, rescuers were still trying to get the victim down. It was dark and raining at the scene. Misran said the department was using a drone to bring ropes up to the man to be secured so that he can slowly be assisted down.
