SIBU: Quick action by firefighters here saved the lives of six budget hotel guests after it caught fire on Sunday (May 28).
During the incident, the trapped guests - two men and four women - had climbed out from their window to the roof on the first floor of the hotel and were shouting for help.
Sibu Fire and Rescue Department chief Andy Alie said his department received an emergency call at 9.13am concerning a fire which broke out in a budget hotel on Jalan Emplan. A total of 10 firefighters from the Central Station, located just about 300m from the hotel rushed to the scene. "The fire had started from a room on the first floor and spread to its lobby. As the main entrance was covered by smoke, the victims climbed to the rooftop," he said."Nobody was injured in the fire, however 30% of the hotel was damaged," said Alie.
