About 1500 firefighters brought the industrial action, which left stations across the state understaffed this morning.
It came after the union rejected an offer of a 12 per cent wage increase over four years for firefighters.Firefighters have marched through Melbourne's CBD after wage disputes between the government and the United Firefighters Union fell apart.
United Firefighters Union Victorian branch secretary Peter Marshall said the professional firefighters should be preparing for the upcoming season instead of fighting for their own working conditions. "After 76 face-to-face meetings and 16 appearances before the Fair Work Commission, the Andrews Government has ripped up the enterprise bargaining agreement in firefighters' faces."
