Firefighters were battling the Corral Fire east of the Alameda County line under a high wind alert Wednesday, authorities said.
The fire began around 9:40 p.m. near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Site 300, 15999 Corral Hollow Road, with Alameda County Fire Department crews initially responding to reports of three to five acres burning with light, flashy fuels responding to strong wind gusts.
Despite a robust response from CalFire resources and Livermore-Pleasanton fire departments, the fire spread to about 40 acres. There were no initial threats to structures or reports of injuries. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for North Bay and East Bay hills from 8 p.m. Wednesday through 11 a.m. Thursday. By late Wednesday, many elevated East Bay locations were seeing wind gusts between 30 to 50 miles per hour, prompting the California Highway Patrol to issue its own advisory for eastern Alameda County.
